If we want it to remain the economic engine of the Czech and European economy, we need not only to define a&nbsp;long-term strategy, but also to fundamentally change the EU&#8217;s&nbsp;strict regulatory approach. Without an industrial policy that takes into account the realities of global competition, Europe risks becoming a&nbsp;mere outlet for foreign manufacturers and denying its climate ambitions instead of being a&nbsp;leader in innovation and manufacturing,&#8221;<\/em> warns <strong>Zden\u011bk Petzl, Executive Director of the Czech Automotive Industry Association.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>AutoSAP&#8217;s&nbsp;key priorities for the future of the European automotive industry are therefore:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Simplifying regulation and removing legislative barriers<\/strong> &#8211; A&nbsp;more flexible mechanism for meeting CO\u2082 targets, a&nbsp;technology-neutral approach to achieving them and removing counterproductive penalties for non-compliance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Investing in innovation and technological development<\/strong> &#8211; Supporting research and development in batteries, hydrogen, CO\u2082 neutral fuels and autonomous mobility.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Supporting European manufacturers and maintaining industrial production in Europe<\/strong> &#8211; Creating competitive industrial conditions and ensuring affordable energy for manufacturers to maintain key investments in the EU.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Availability of raw materials and securing strategic supply chains<\/strong> &#8211; A&nbsp;more effective strategy for access to raw materials essential for battery production and advanced technologies, strengthening trade agreements with strategic partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14502 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/autosap.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/obrazek1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"93\" height=\"93\" srcset=\"https:\/\/autosap.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/obrazek1.png 1278w, https:\/\/autosap.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/obrazek1-250x250.png 250w, https:\/\/autosap.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/obrazek1-700x700.png 700w, https:\/\/autosap.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/obrazek1-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/autosap.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/obrazek1-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/autosap.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/obrazek1-120x120.png 120w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 93px) 100vw, 93px\" \/><\/p>\n<div><em>&#8220;Opening up the strategic dialogue and public consultation is a&nbsp;step in the right direction. But time is running out and before we discuss long-term visions, concrete measures to remove existing regulatory barriers to the free market must be taken in the coming weeks. The looming penalties for not meeting the 2025 CO\u2082 targets are an example of an unsustainable situation that could cause irreversible damage to European manufacturing and employment.
