In the first two months of this year, a total of 234,341 passenger cars were completed on the lines of domestic manufacturers, i.e. 11% fewer vehicles year-on-year. Production of motorcycles was also lower, with 101 units produced. On the other hand, production of buses showed a further increase, with a total of 863 units completed, up 27% year-on-year. The share of electric vehicles rose to 16.9% of total production, with 30,532 pure electric vehicles and 9,058 plug-in hybrids produced.

“The slower pace of new passenger car production, correlated with a decline in registrations in the main European markets of Germany, France, Italy or the UK, is also reflected in the February domestic production data. On the other hand, we observe a significant year-on-year increase in the production of electric vehicles, whose share in domestic production in the first two months of the year rose from 7% last year to 16.9% this year. This increase is the result of two factors in particular – the start of series production of the new Škoda Elroq, whose production at the beginning of the year almost matched that of its older and successful predecessor, the Enyaq, and the more than one-fifth share of electric vehicles in the production of the Nosovice-based Hyundai. If we are to remain competitive while contributing to more sustainable mobility, we need to offer the cars that customers want, need and are willing to buy at the time. Regulation should therefore set realistic targets, not ways to get there,” says Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Automotive Industry Association.

Passenger vehicles

In January and February, 234,341 passenger vehicles were produced in the Czech Republic, i.e. 10.9% less than in the first two months of the previous year. Electric vehicles produced in the period were 39,590 units and their share in domestic car production more than doubled year-on-year to 16.9%. A total of 30,532 battery BEVs and 9,058 plug-in hybrid PHEVs were produced.

Škoda Auto, the largest domestic carmaker, produced 151,429 passenger cars at its domestic plants in January and February (-6.4%). Škoda produced 29,648 electric cars (battery BEVs and plug-in hybrid PHEVs), i.e. 19.6% of the brand’s total production. Of these, 24,861 were battery BEVs and 4,787 were plug-in hybrids. The numbers of electric vehicles produced by the Mladá Boleslav carmaker and the overall increase in the number of vehicles produced in this segment also reflect the start of series production of the new Elroq model, of which the Mladá Boleslav carmaker produced almost the same number as the Enyaq model.

In the first two months, the Hyundai plant in Nosovice produced a total of 44,440 vehicles, 24.4% less than in the same period last year. Of the total number of vehicles, 5,671 had pure electric and 4,271 had plug-in hybrid drive. Overall, electric vehicles accounted for 22.4% of total production.

Cologne-based Toyota saw a 9.5% drop in production in the first two months. In absolute terms, a total of 38,472 passenger cars were produced in Cologne at the start of this year. Almost 58% of these were vehicles of the Yaris HEV hybrid model.

Buses

In January and February 2025, 185 more buses were produced in the Czech Republic than in the same period last year. This brings the total value of production to 863 buses and represents a 27.3% increase over the previous year.

Iveco CR in Vysoké Mýto produced 842 buses, 31.2% more than in the same period last year. SOR Libchavy, on the other hand, recorded lower production figures of buses in the first two months of this year, i.e. 14 units, i.e. 45.2% less than last year.

KHMC produced 4 minibuses in January and February. In the electric drive segment, a total of 62 electric buses were produced in the first two months. Almost all of them were produced by Iveco CR (61 units), the remaining one unit was manufactured at the SOR plant in Libchav.

Motorcycles

Traditional motorcycle manufacturer Jawa Moto reported a year-on-year decline in January and February production. In the first two months, a total of 101 motorcycles (-33.6%) rolled off the production line of the domestic brand, i.e. 51 fewer motorcycles in absolute year-on-year comparison.
