Since the beginning of the year, 973,560 vehicles have been completed on the lines of domestic passenger car manufacturers, which is 5.5% more than in the same period last year. Significant growth was recorded in the motorcycle category, where production grew by more than 60% to a total of 782 units. There was a slight year-on-year decrease in bus production with a total of 2 905 units. In the electric vehicle segment, a total of 89,391 electric vehicles were produced in the first eight months, of which 66,701 were pure electric and 22,641 plug-in hybrids. The remaining 49 units were pure electric buses. Electric vehicles accounted for 9.2% of total passenger vehicle production.
“The production of domestically-branded vehicles is growing despite a slight cooling in the main European markets, even in the limited operation of the summer months, which companies are using for preventive maintenance, installation of new robots and an overall increase in production automation. The domestic auto industry thus once again supported the performance of the domestic economy and continued its +5.5% growth trajectory even stronger than the EU new vehicle market, which grew at +1.4%,” says Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Automotive Industry Association.
Passenger vehicles
From the beginning of this year to the end of August, 973,560 passenger vehicles were produced, 5.5% more than in the same period last year. In the summer months, the production trend was influenced by the dates of regular company-wide holidays and planned preventive maintenance, installation of new robots to increase the automation of production processes. In July, 82,547 vehicles (-6.8%) were produced, while in August, 116,703 vehicles (+22.3%) were produced. Total production in the two summer months was thus 15,258 vehicles (+8.3%) higher than in the same period last year. A total of 199,250 passenger vehicles were produced.
Škoda Auto, the largest domestic carmaker, produced 598,115 passenger cars (+3.7%) at its domestic plants between January and August. 51,396 electric vehicles (BEVs and PHEVs) were produced, i.e. 8.6% of the brand’s total production. Of these, 43,503 were battery vehicles and 7,893 were plug-in hybrids.
Hyundai’s Nosovice plant produced a total of 224,050 vehicles in the first eight months, 50 fewer than in the same period last year. Of the total number of vehicles, 23,198 were pure electric and 14,748 plug-in hybrids. Overall, electric vehicles produced at the Nosovice car plant account for almost 17% of total production.
151,395 cars rolled off the Toyota Motor Manufacturing production line in Cologne this year, 24.5% more vehicles than in the same period last year, which was affected by production stoppages caused by shortages in some production parts. Almost half of production was accounted for by Yaris HV hybrids.
Buses
The production of buses recorded a year-on-year decline, mainly due to the order-driven nature of production. In the first eight months, a total of 2,905 buses were produced in the Czech Republic, 244 fewer (-7.7%) than in the same period last year. Iveco CR in Vysoké Mýto produced 2,636 buses (-10.4%), while SOR Libchavy produced a total of 246 buses (+24.2%). KHMC, which focuses on the production of minibuses, produced a total of 21 vehicles in the period, i.e. 11 more than in the previous year. In the electric drive segment, a total of 49 battery BEV buses were produced in January-August, 32 more (+188.2%) than in the previous year. A total of 32 of them were produced at the SOR plant in Libchav, and another 17 at Iveco CR.
