The Automotive Industry Association welcomes Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ announced plan to build a new production plant in Cheb with a capacity of up to 25,000 trucks per year. This project represents a significant boost to the Czech automotive industry and, at the same time, expands its production portfolio to include a new segment. The project anticipates construction beginning next year, with production ramping up by the end of the decade and the creation of more than 1,000 jobs, not only in manufacturing but also in IT, quality control, and maintenance. The new facility is to be part of Daimler Truck’s European production network and will be dedicated to the assembly of vehicles with both diesel and alternative powertrains.

“I view Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ announcement as a very strong signal for the Czech automotive industry and the economy as a whole. It confirms not only our industrial tradition, but above all the high concentration of technical and development expertise. The planned production of tractor trucks in Cheb further expands the portfolio of vehicles manufactured in the Czech Republic and sends a clear signal about the country’s long-term attractiveness for high-value-added investments. At the same time, it demonstrates that the Czech Republic has the capacity to succeed both in the field of conventional technologies and in the ongoing transition toward low-emission and zero-emission mobility,” says Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Czech Automotive Industry Association.

A significant investment in the commercial vehicle segment

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has announced plans to expand its European production network with a new plant in Cheb, which is set to join the existing network by the end of the decade. According to published information, the facility will be dedicated to vehicle assembly and production, with a planned capacity of approximately 25,000 units per year. The initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at increasing the efficiency, resilience, and flexibility of the production network in response to the growing complexity of the product portfolio.

Strengthening the Czech industrial sector

From the perspective of the Czech Automotive Industry Association, this investment significantly expands the Czech automotive industry’s manufacturing base and confirms the Czech Republic’s ability to attract strategically important industrial investments. At the same time, the production of vehicles with diesel and alternative powertrains reflects current industry trends, which place increasing emphasis on technological flexibility and readiness for new types of powertrains.

A Boost for the Karlovy Vary Region and the Whole of the Czech Republic

Daimler Truck’s arrival in Cheb will create approximately 1,100 new jobs, primarily skilled technical and manufacturing positions. The project will also support vocational training and the return of a skilled workforce to the region, with the investor planning to collaborate with local educational institutions. More than half of the employees are expected to have at least a high school education.

Daimler Truck is expected to offer wages approximately 20% higher than the average in the Karlovy Vary Region, which will significantly contribute to raising wage levels in the region and support its economic transformation. The company’s goal is to build a long-term, stable, and reliable team of employees, with a focus on directly hiring local residents during the recruitment process.

The Czech automotive industry reaffirms its appeal

The arrival of Mercedes-Benz Trucks in the Czech Republic sends a strong signal to the entire sector. The domestic automotive industry has long been built on a combination of high-quality manufacturing, export performance, and a highly skilled workforce. This new project in the heavy commercial vehicle segment further strengthens this position and confirms that the Czech Republic has much to offer not only in the passenger car sector but also in the production of advanced commercial vehicles for both European and global markets. The fact that the new plant will be part of Daimler Truck’s broader European production network also demonstrates the investor’s confidence in the long-term competitiveness of the Czech industrial environment.
