In the first four months of 2024, a total of 531,355 vehicles have already been completed on the lines of domestic passenger vehicle manufacturers, i.e. 14.4% more than last year. The half a million vehicles produced mark was thus surpassed a month earlier and at a historical record. Production also increased by almost 24% in April alone, when a total of 136,912 passenger cars were produced. Bus manufacturers also recorded an increase of more than 7% to 1,507 units. Motorcycle production also fared well, with a total of 308 units and an almost 16% year-on-year increase. In the electric vehicle segment, a total of 39,605 electric vehicles were produced by the end of April, of which 29,026 were pure electric and 10,574 plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles. The remaining 5 units were pure electric buses.

“The historically fastest ever passing of the half a million vehicles produced mark, continuous growth in production across all vehicle categories and a return to pre-crisis production values is a clear confirmation of the competitiveness of the domestic car industry and great news for the domestic economy. The positive development of vehicle registrations in the European market, which recorded an overall year-on-year growth of +6.6%, including the April recovery of the electric vehicle market (+14.8%), also contributed to the results. Especially in view of the volatility of the electric vehicle market, we are now closely monitoring further developments in the tense global trade relations and the upcoming reaction from the European Commission in the form of a possible increase in import tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. What the European industry needs now, on the other hand, are measures that will support its strengths, i.e. the development of innovation, the provision of cheaper energy and easier access to foreign workers from non-European countries,” says Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Automotive Industry Association.
