In the first four months, a total of 490,868 passenger vehicles were completed on the lines of domestic manufacturers, down 7.6% year-on-year. The motorcycle segment also recorded lower production results, with 238 units produced. On the other hand, the production of buses showed an increase, with a total of 1,714 units produced, up 13.7% year-on-year. Dynamic growth was recorded in the production of electric vehicles – 52,592 units, or 133% more than in the same period last year, were produced from January to April. Of the 92,197 vehicles, 71,465 were pure electric and 20,732 plug-in hybrids.

“The slower pace of domestic production of new passenger cars, reflecting cooling demand in key European markets, is reflected in the production results of the first four months and April itself. Despite this, the domestic car industry recorded another record high, this time in the electric vehicle segment. With a total of 27,094 electric vehicles produced, April surpasses the previous month’s record results, with pure electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles accounting for a quarter of total production at Mladá Boleslav’s Škoda Auto and almost a third at Hyundai in Nošovice. The international success and popularity of vehicles from domestic manufacturers is confirmed by the first place in April for the Škoda Elroq SUV, which became the best-selling electric vehicle in Europe,” says Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Association of the Automotive Industry.

Passenger vehicles

From the beginning of the year to the end of April, 490,868 passenger vehicles were produced in the Czech Republic, i.e. 7.6% less than in the first four months of last year. A total of 92 050 electric vehicles were produced in the period and their share in domestic car production reached 18.8%. A total of 71 318 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 20 732 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) were produced.

Škoda Auto, the largest domestic carmaker, produced 316,145 passenger cars (-4.2%) at its domestic plants in the first four months. 68,089 electric cars (BEVs and PHEVs) were produced, i.e. more than 21% of the brand’s total production. Of these, 57,971 were pure battery vehicles and 10,118 plug-in hybrids.

Hyundai’s Nosovice plant produced a total of 97,340 vehicles in the first four months, 17% less than in the same period last year. Of the total number of vehicles, 13,347 were pure electric and 10,614 plug-in hybrids. Overall, electric vehicles accounted for almost 24.6% of total production.

Production at Toyota of Cologne was also down year-on-year. 77 383 cars were produced, i.e. 7.7% fewer than in January-April 2024. In absolute terms, 6 497 fewer passenger cars were produced in Cologne in the period. Almost 60% of the vehicles produced were Yaris HEV hybrids.

Buses

In the first four months of 2025, domestic manufacturers produced 207 more buses than in the same period last year. The total value of production was 1,714 buses. This represents a 13.7% increase compared to the previous year.

The year-on-year increase in the number of buses produced was mainly driven by Iveco CR, where a total of 1,659 buses were produced in the cumulative period, i.e. 20.7% more than in the same period last year.

SOR Libchavy, on the other hand, recorded lower production figures in the first four months of this year at the level of 47 buses, i.e. 71 units, i.e. 60.2% less than last year.

KHMC produced 8 minibuses in the period (-33.3%).

The zero-emission bus segment totalled 147 buses produced in the first four months, all of which were purely battery-powered. A total of 131 of them were manufactured by Iveco CR, the remaining 16 by SOR.
