In the first three quarters of this year, a total of 1,095,937 passenger vehicles were assembled on the lines of domestic car manufacturers, 0.6% more year-on-year. The million-vehicle mark was thus broken again in September. This also became the historically strongest month for Czech battery electric vehicle production (25,708 BEVs). The combined monthly production volume of passenger vehicles with external charging (BEV and PHEV) then exceeded the 30,000-vehicle mark for the first time and, with a 23.7% share in total production, it also surpasses the production volume of hybrid vehicles (HEV). Other vehicle categories also showed good results in the first nine months: buses 4,162 units (+1.2%), trucks 1,232 units (+41.1%), motorcycles 603 units (+6.3%), trailers up to 3.5t 13,473 units (+14.4%) and trailers over 3.5t 1,813 units (+13.8%).

“September’s record in electric car production shows that Czech automakers are able to take advantage of the growing interest in this type of drive, whether due to high oil prices or the tax environment in a given market. After all, nine out of ten cars produced in our country are destined for export, and the ability to offer cars that meet demand in foreign markets is therefore essential for the Czech automotive industry. The good news is that overall production is still above last year’s level. We are therefore following the progress of negotiations on the impending 10% tariff on the export of electric cars to the United Kingdom with concern. If it were to actually come into effect from January 2027, approximately 50,000 BEV and PHEV vehicles exported from the Czech Republic to Britain would be at risk,” says Martin Jahn, president of the Automotive Industry Association.
Passenger vehicles
In the first nine months, 1,095,937 passenger vehicles were produced in the Czech Republic, i.e. 0.6% more year-on-year than in the same period of the previous year. 458,844 electrified vehicles were produced in the given period and their share in domestic car production increased to almost 42%. A total of 192,044 battery BEVs, 38,258 plug-in hybrid PHEVs and 228,542 hybrid vehicles were produced. A total of 81,806 vehicles (7.5%) were destined for the domestic market, i.e. 2.4% more than in the previous year. More than 92% of the cars produced (1,014,131 units) were destined for foreign markets. Exports recorded a 0.5% increase year-on-year.
The largest domestic automaker, Škoda Auto, produced a total of 733,954 passenger cars in its domestic plants from January to September 2026, 4% more year-on-year. 70,542 vehicles (+4.2%) were placed on the Czech market, while 663,412 vehicles (+4.0%) were sent abroad. In September, daily production at Škoda Auto again exceeded the 4,000-car mark. The Mladá Boleslav-based automaker produced 195,385 vehicles with external charging, i.e. battery (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV), i.e. 26.6% of the brand’s total domestic production. Of these, 169,708 were purely battery BEV vehicles and 25,677 were plug-in hybrid vehicles. In addition to existing models, the start of series production of the Škoda Peaq model also contributed to the production of electrified vehicles.
Hyundai’s Nošovice plant produced a total of 196,660 cars from January to September, which is 8.1% less year-on-year. 187,168 cars were exported (-7.9%), 9,492 were intended for the Czech market (-11.6%). Of the total production, 22,336 cars had a purely electric drive, 12,581 had a plug-in hybrid and 63,219 had a hybrid drive. Electrified cars thus made up almost half of the total production. The carmaker also introduced the new generation of the TUCSON model, which it will produce for European markets in Nošovice. The range of drives includes, in addition to petrol engines, hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.
A total of 165,323 vehicles rolled off the production line of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic in Kolín in the first nine months, which is 2.8% less year-on-year. All vehicles produced had a hybrid drive and more than 98.9% of them were exported. The lower production volumes in August and September are related to a longer technical shutdown, which the automaker used to prepare for a new project to produce battery electric vehicles (BEV). According to Toyota, these preparations are now one of its main topics, which it will continue to focus on intensively in the coming period.
Buses
In the first three quarters, 4,162 buses were produced in the Czech Republic, up 1.2% year-on-year. 596 of them were intended for the domestic market (+132.8%), the majority, i.e. 3,926 vehicles, were destined for export (-10.1%). Vysokomytsk-based Iveco Czech Republic produced 3,673 buses. Another 32 built-up vehicles were completed at a sister plant in Foggia, Italy. 412 Iveco buses were registered on the domestic market (+97.1%), while 3,621 units were exported abroad (-11.6%). SOR Libchavy completed 471 buses, up 60.2% compared to last year. Of these, 184 were intended for the domestic market and 287 went abroad. The manufacturer KHMC produced 18 buses, all for export.
The electrified bus segment reached a total of 190 purely battery buses manufactured in January-September, of which 130 were manufactured in Iveco ČR and 60 in SOR Libchavy. Another 292 hybrid buses were assembled in Iveco ČR.
Trucks
Significant growth was recorded by Tatra Trucks, the only truck manufacturer among the members of the Association of the Automotive Industry. In the first three quarterly periods, it produced 1,232 cars, 359 more than last year (+41.1%). A significant change also concerns the ownership structure of the company. In October 2026, the European Commission approved the entry of the STV Invest group, which will thus become a co-owner of the Kopřivnica car company alongside the Czechoslovak Group (CSG) and the Promet Group.
Motorcycles
Jawa produced 603 motorcycles in the first three quarters, 36 more than last year (+6.3%). 226 machines were intended for the Czech market (-13.4%), 377 were destined for export (+23.2%). Mr. Petr Šesták has newly taken over the position of the company’s executive director.
Trailers
The trailer segment also grew year-on-year. From January to September 2026, a total of 15,286 trailers and semi-trailers of all sizes were produced, 1,920 more than last year (+14.4%). The majority of production was provided by Agados, which specializes in small trailers up to 3.5 tons. It produced 13,473 (+14.4%), sold 7,176 in the Czech Republic (-1.3%) and 5,875 abroad (+39.8%). In the large trailer and semi-trailer category, production increased year-on-year by 13.8% to 1,813 vehicles. Schwarzmüller produced 1,354 large trailers, 11.2% more than last year. It sold 222 in the Czech Republic (+1.8%), and 1,132 abroad (+18.2%). Panav, another domestic manufacturer in this category, produced 459 trailers and semi-trailers, 23.1% more than last year. It delivered 383 to the domestic market (+68.7%), and 54 abroad (+20.0%).
