In the first five months of 2025, a total of 611,160 passenger cars were produced in the Czech Republic, i.e. 6.3% less than in the same period in 2024. In May alone, total production has almost stabilized and approached the results of last year. The electric vehicle segment continues to show significant year-on-year growth, currently accounting for almost one fifth of total production. Bus production also grew, with 2,244 buses produced from January to the end of May, almost 20% more than last year. The motorcycle segment, on the other hand, saw a 38% year-on-year decline in production, with a total of 295 units produced.

“The slight recovery in the European market in May is also reflected in the production volume of domestic carmakers, whose total production is erasing the losses from the beginning of the year. In addition, we are also registering a steady growth in domestic production in the electric vehicle segment. Almost every fifth vehicle produced in the Czech Republic today has either a plug-in hybrid or a pure battery drive. In the current year-on-year comparison, this means a twofold increase in the production of plug-in hybrid vehicles and even a 2.5-fold increase in pure electric vehicles. A symbolic milestone is the crossing of the 100,000 passenger electric vehicles produced in May – two months earlier than in 2024,” said Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Association of the Automotive Industry.

Passeneger vehicles

In the first five months, 611,160 passenger vehicles were produced in the Czech Republic, i.e. 6.3% less than in the same period of the previous year. In May alone, production of 120 292 passenger cars was already close to the previous year’s figures. Electric vehicles produced 118,728 and their share in domestic car production rose to 19.4%. A total of 92 231 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 26 497 plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) were produced.

Škoda Auto, the largest domestic carmaker, produced 391,823 passenger cars (-2.3%) at its plants in the first five months of the year, 4,976 more vehicles (+7.0%) than last year in May alone. Electric vehicles (BEVs and PHEVs) produced 87,496, i.e. 22.3% of the brand’s total production. Of these, 75,202 were battery vehicles and 12,294 were plug-in hybrids.

Hyundai’s Nosovice plant produced a total of 123,140 vehicles in the first five months, 16.5% less than in the same period last year. Of the total number of vehicles, 17,029 were pure electric and 14,203 plug-in hybrids. Overall, electric vehicles accounted for over 25% of total production.

Cologne-based Toyota also recorded lower production figures year-on-year. 96 197 cars were produced, i.e. 7.2% fewer than in January-May 2024. In absolute terms, 7 461 fewer passenger cars were produced in Cologne in the period. The Yaris HEV hybrid accounted for more than 50% of production.

Buses

In the first five months, 372 more buses were produced in the Czech Republic than in the same period last year. The total value of production was 2,244 buses, an increase of almost 20% compared to the previous year.

Iveco Czech Republic produced 2,139 buses in Vysoké Mýto, which is 25.4% more than in the same period last year, and another 5 buses in built-up form, which are being completed at its sister plant in Foggia, Italy.

SOR Libchavy produced a total of 96 buses in the first five months of this year, 55 fewer (-36.4%) than last year. KHMC produced 9 minibuses in the period.

The electric bus segment recorded a significant year-on-year growth of 2,587.5%, with a total of 215 battery BEV buses produced. A total of 193 of them were produced at Iveco Czech Republic’s plant in Vysoké Mýto, while the remaining 22 were produced at SOR.

Motorcycles

Traditional motorcycle manufacturer JAWA Moto recorded a five-month year-on-year decline in production. In January-May, a total of 295 motorcycles (-38%) rolled off the domestic brand’s production line, 181 fewer than last year in absolute terms.
