In the first month of this year, domestic manufacturers produced 10% more passenger cars than in the same period last year, specifically 125,190 units. Motorcycle production also grew, with 63 units manufactured. In contrast, bus production was lower at the beginning of the year, with a total of 365 vehicles. The share of battery-powered vehicles manufactured grew by more than half year-on-year. Together with the growth in the volume of hybrids, the share of vehicles with some form of electrified drive already accounted for 40.4% of total production. Specifically, 20,859 purely electric vehicles, 4,101 plug-in hybrids, and 25,879 hybrids were produced.

“Electrified vehicles are becoming one of the main pillars of production in domestic car factories. Almost a quarter of Škoda Auto’s production, half of Hyundai’s production in Nošovice, and all vehicles from Toyota in Kolín are models with some form of electrified drive. Models manufactured in the Czech Republic are successful not only on the domestic market but also on major European markets. The same trend is confirmed by an almost 54% increase in the production of hybrid buses. The Czech automotive industry is thus clearly demonstrating that it can transform the technological transformation it has set out to achieve into concrete results. On the other hand, even this extraordinary performance cannot meet the overly ambitious requirements of European regulations on fleet CO2 targets. If these are not properly adjusted during the currently open discussions, automotive companies face fines running into billions,” says Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Czech Automotive Industry Association.

Passenger vehicles

In January, a total of 125,190 passenger cars were manufactured in the Czech Republic, which is 10% more than in the first month of last year. Of these, a total of 50,789 were electrified vehicles – 20,849 BEVs, 4,101 PHEVs, and 25,839 HEVs. Electrified passenger cars thus accounted for 40.5% of the total number of passenger cars produced and a year-on-year increase of 55%. The category of externally rechargeable vehicles, i.e., pure battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), numbered 24,950 units and accounted for 20% of production, with a year-on-year increase of 56.7%.

The largest domestic car manufacturer, Škoda Auto, produced 85,522 passenger cars (+18.2%) in its domestic plants in the first month. The Mladá Boleslav-based carmaker produced 20,928 externally rechargeable vehicles, i.e., battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), accounting for 24.5% of the brand’s total domestic production. Of these, 17,955 were purely battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 2,973 were plug-in hybrid vehicles.

A total of 20,000 vehicles were assembled at Hyundai’s Nošovice plant in January, which is 5.8% less than in the same period last year. Of the total number of vehicles, 2,894 were purely electric, 1,128 were plug-in hybrids, and 6,171 were hybrids. In total, electrified vehicles numbered 10,193, representing 50.1% of the brand’s domestic production.

A total of 19,668 completed vehicles rolled off the production line at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic in Kolín in January, 2.8% less than in the same period last year. All 19,668 vehicles had hybrid powertrains.

Buses

Bus production in January recorded a year-on-year decline of 14%. Total production reached 365 buses, which is 60 buses fewer than last year. Iveco CR in Vysoké Mýto produced 316 buses, which is 24.4% less than in the same period last year. SOR Libchavy produced a total of 48 buses in the first month of this year, which is 41 more buses. KHMC produced 1 bus in the first month of the year.

Motorcycles

Traditional motorcycle manufacturer Jawa Moto reported a year-on-year increase in January production. In the first month, a total of 63 motorcycles (+34%) rolled off the domestic brand’s production line, which is 16 more motorcycles in absolute terms compared to the same period last year.
