From January to the end of April, a total of 1,892 buses rolled off the lines of domestic manufacturers – 10.4% more year-on-year. The production of the dominant segment of passenger cars also grew, with 525,293 units manufactured (+7%) and thus surpassing the half-million vehicle mark in April, a month earlier. The production of motorcycles also prospered, with a total of 687 units manufactured (+188.7 units). The share of all electrified vehicles in total production was 40.9% – of which 21% were hybrid, 16.5% purely battery and 3.4% plug-in hybrid vehicles.

“Not only the production of passenger cars, but also the production of buses in the Czech Republic has long confirmed its extraordinary strength and competitiveness. The year-on-year double-digit increase in production, the position of European and world leader in the number of buses produced per total population, and the growing number of battery and hybrid buses in recent years confirm that Czech manufacturers are among the world’s top manufacturers that can successfully respond to market changes and demand for low-emission public transport,” says Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Association of the Automotive Industry.
Passenger vehicles
From the beginning of the year to the end of April, 525,293 passenger vehicles were produced in the Czech Republic, i.e. 7.0% more year-on-year than in the first four months of last year. Of these, 77,889 were BEV vehicles and 12,146 were PHEV vehicles.
In the first four months of the year, a total of 89,400 vehicles were produced at the Hyundai plant in Nošovice, i.e. 8.2% less than in the same period last year. The decline in production is noticeable across all types of alternative drives – BEV, PHEV and HEV. Of the total number of vehicles produced, 9,226 were purely electric, 5,787 were plug-in hybrid and 28,318 were hybrid. Overall, electrified vehicles accounted for more than 48.5% of total production.
At Toyota in Cologne, production was higher year-on-year. 82,431 cars were produced, i.e. 6.5% more than in January-April 2025. All vehicles produced had a hybrid drive.
Buses
In the first four months of 2026, domestic manufacturers produced a total of 1,892 buses, which is 10.4% more than in the same period last year. The year-on-year increase was mainly due to SOR Libchavy, where 169 more buses were completed year-on-year (+359.6%). In total, 216 buses rolled off the production line. A total of 1,668 buses were produced in the Vysokomytsk Iveco CR in the given period (+0.5%). KHMC produced a total of 8 minibuses in the first four months, the same number as last year.
